Dusk at Bransbury

by A warbler a day

Sorry about the delay with this post but I had difficulty getting on the website. Last Sunday I went back to Bransbury Common just before the sun went down and at last I had success. The first thing I saw as I arrived was a Barn Owl hunting in the distance. I was then alerted by some fellow birders to the Great Grey Shrike. It was perched in some bushes across the river. Even with my binoculars it was just a pale speck so was grateful to be allowed to look through the birder’s ‘scope. Finally a shout from the birders alerted me to large bird dropping in to the long grass which I am assured was the Short-eared Owl. All three of my targets spotted plus flocks of Meadow Pipits and Fieldfares. I’d call that a successful trip!
