Andover Bird Challenge 2014

by A warbler a day

This morning I joined some others on the Andover Bird Challenge. This is an annual event organised by the local group of the Hampshire wildlife Trust which involves two teams walking around the Andover area to see who can find the most species of birds. This year we started at Charlton Lakes and travelled a circular route along the Harrow Way to Penton Corner returning via some meadows on Foxcotte Lane. The best birds seen by my team were a female Bullfinch, a couple of Mistle Thrushes, a distant Cormorant, a Red kite and some Redwings. We also saw plenty of butterflies, mostly Brimstones but also a Small Tortoiseshell and a Peacock, and also a Toad. The final result was a draw, 33 species all.
