A ‘Full House’ of Thrushes

by A warbler a day

Today I visited both Rooksbury Mill and Danebury Ring. In my total of 31 species of bird seen were all 5 species of thrush likely to be found in winter;
* Blackbirds – everywhere
* Song Thrush – 1 seen skulking under a juniper bush on Danebury Ring
* Mistle Thrush – 1 seen flying through the trees on Danebury Ring making its rattling alarm call.
* Redwing – 1 seen bathing in a puddle at Rooksbury Mill
* Fieldfare – A flock of about 50 noisily flying around Danebury Ring.

The other birds of interest were seen in the scrub on the slope up to Danebury Ring from the car park. There was a sizeable flock of Yellowhammers with the males resplendent in bright yellow heads. In amongst them was a flock of Greenfinches and a Nuthatch feeding on the path.
